I’m a musician and teacher and have had regular exposure to various body work approaches all my life. I regularly seek ways to stay active and to overcome the limitations sometimes posed by a variety of injuries or health concerns. Rolfing has been an important way for me to maximize my health, and working with Kate Hughes was as good as it gets. Kate took me through the 10-session sequence and now, six months out from the final session, I continue to feel an ease and energy in my movements that crystallized during that work. It does not hurt at all that she is warm, friendly, and responsive to one’s concerns and needs, but also deeply engaged in the attention to her work. I know she will continue to help others as much as she helped me, and I recommend her without hesitation!

As a wildland firefighter of two decades, I have used chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy, and exercise on a regular basis for overall wellness. Kate Hughes came to our smokejumper base during our End-Of-Season Review to offer more information and a sample session of Rolfing, after which I signed up for the program. Overall the experience was very beneficial and the process helped alleviate the severity of chronic back and knee pain. It helped to realign my pelvic frame and improved my posture, both seated and mobile. Kate was very supportive. She welcomed feedback, modified within reason to customize a program for what, together, we believed was most beneficial for my body and ailments. She tutored me on the process so that the overall goal was clear. Then she would revisit where we were in the process so that I could help myself maintain the benefits. Each session we’d start with an evaluation and discussion, complete the Rolf session, and conclude with her advice. This was two years ago. With regular stretching and exercise, periodic back spasms are gone and the chronic pain is far less noticeable. The overall experience increased my mobility/flexibility and allowed my physical fitness to match the physical demands of my job as a smoke jumper.

I highly recommend having Rolfing done by Kate. I came to her when I developed both Carpal and Cubital Tunnel Syndrome, due to my job, and I didn’t want to have surgery. After the first session, I found lasting relief in my hands and arms. Although I continued my regular work, the Cubital Tunnel Syndrome has not returned. I did the ten series, and even though we focused on different parts of my body, Kate always worked a little on my hands and arms. Each time, I got long lasting relief and was able to continue working without surgery. I used to get massages done to work out issues in my body, but now I will always come to see Kate. I am so glad I found her. I didn’t know what Rolfing was when I started having her work on me. Rolfing is different from massage and I feel like it really hits every spot I want to have worked on. It is targeted and deep. Kate has extensive knowledge of the body and I felt very safe and comfortable having her work on me. She’s incredibly compassionate and kind, too. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Kate, you will only feel better after each session.
